A short sword crafted from a single Zha’kara diamond.

Aqua

One of the Alterworlds.

Arant

One of the seven Sectors.

Armament Stores

Caches of weapons held in vaults beneath the Academy of Light.

Armatura

A race of beings from Incendium.

Arms Endowment

The allotment of weapons a student receives in their third year at the Academy.

Aura

A spectrum of light formed by energy that can be seen around a person’s head. It reveals characteristics about the person. (Also see ‘The Aura’)

Baldrics

Crossed leather braces that hold weapons.

Basic Clasis

One of the forms of the martial art Ferito that does not involve using weapons. Also called ‘Basic’.

Billabong

A still body of water formed by surrounding rock or the banks of a river. Similar to a large pond.

Blocking

A form of defence using different methods to block the attack of an enemy.

Breach

When creatures of the Underworld access the Overworld through a Seam.

Bullio

A technique that creates floating bubbles of light.

Bunyip

One of the Strigis. A huge and grotesque creature that in past history was said to be seen in lakes and billabongs. Now considered to only reside in the Underworld.

Buyabarra Billabong

A billabong renowned for its healing properties.

Caelites

A race of beings from Caelus.

Caelus

One of the Alterworlds.

Chat

A creature from Terra.

Chimera

A creature formed from two different organisms.

Clasis

A suite of interlinked movements that is part of the martial art Ferito.

Clasis for Single-Blade Weapon

The Ferito Clasis designed for fighting with one weapon. Also called ‘Single’.

Clasis for Two-Handed Fighting

The Ferito Clasis designed for using two blades at once. Also called ‘Two’.

Clementis

A race of beings from Caelus known for their legendary healing abilities.

Cognitive Energies

The energy from mental processes. Used in retrocognition and precognition (reading past and future events).

Corona

A series of electrical currents sparking outwards from the body.

Entis

Earth as we know it.

Counter-Pound

Sending a wave of energy by stamping the foot in order to nullify the pound from an attacker.

Crescent Blade

A sickle-shaped weapon used by the Mimir.

Desert Hirtus

A large spider-like, timid creature from Incendium.

Determinant Dozen Echelon

The government of the Overworld, including Lightworkers, Nemoris, Pinnae, Caelites and Armatura. The government of the Lightworkers.

Ex

Shortened form of ‘Exile’. A Lightworker stripped of their Inguz and their Lightworking energy.

Elevate

A process that occurs when a Lightworker receives their Viq energy. It is revealed when an Inguz appears on the Lightworker’s upper arm.

Faceter Ferito Felsic

Expert artisans who create objects from crystals. The Martial Arts of the Lightworkers. A black screen made of obsidian used during lectures. Uses an electrum stylus to write in light.

Fireweaver

One who can create a protective mantle by using light energy to construct a matrix of light beams.

Flail

A weapon comprised of a spiked ball on a chain.

Flava

One of the seven Sectors.

Fulminology

The study of lightning.

Gazae

The treasure that students collect while undertaking their T.A.C.I. expedition.

Gegenees

A six-armed creature the students encounter during the T.E.P. examination.

Gothak

The malign beings who rule the Underworld. They control the Strigis.

Halo

A mechanical device that fits around the students’ foreheads, helping to focus their energies during their time at the Academy.

Hese

One of the seven Sectors.

Holographic Programming

Using light and energy to create 3D holograms.

Hug

A chimera made up of a rabbit and a chat from Terra.

Illusionary Light Bending

The ability to bend light to transform what the eye sees.

Incendium

One of the Alterworlds.

Inguz

A rune symbolising connection with the earth: the harmonious union between earth, air, fire and water. The word is also said as a blessing.

Iridis

A rainbow created by the crystal Anandalite.

Jolin the First

A master glass craftsman who lived three hundred years ago.

Jolin the Second

Jolin the First’s son, regarded as being even more of a genius than his father.

Jotnar

Short, troll-like creatures with horns.

Kulbeda

A golden dagger with an obsidian handle.

Levitation

Using psychic energy to rise above the ground.

Lightkeeper

A crystal box that protects a family’s Wisdom.

Lightning Rod

A short rod used for practising lightning skills.

Lightning Sheet

An uncontrollable sheet of lightning that shoots out in all directions from the body.

Lightworker

A person with special skills who aims to protect the world and its people.

Lumen

A word meaning ‘The Light’. Often used by the Mimir.

A protective dome of light energy.

Masking

Using light energy to make yourself or an object disappear.

Mimir

A race of short, red-haired beings who live beneath the earth and work with the Lightworkers.

Mnae

A sword crafted by the Mimir.

Nemoris

A race of beings from Aqua.

Nostradamus

A man from the 1500’s famed for his prophesies.

Occido

Lethal Light force.

Overworld

Made up of five worlds: Entis and the four Alterworlds. All races in the Overworld fight against the Underworld.

Palum

A wooden fighting stick used to practise until the student is ready to use real weapons.

Peragro

A message made of Light Paper that only the intended recipient is able to read.

Placement

The ceremony whereby the Aura reveals in which Sector a Lightworker will be placed.

Pounding

Sending a wave of energy out at your opponent by stamping your foot on the ground.

Psionics

Psychic ability that includes telepathy, pyrokinesis and other mind forces.

Psychic Force

Mental energy.

Pyrokinesis

Using psychic power to create and control fire.

Receiving Stone

A large square of Moldavite that students depart from and arrive back to during their T.A.C.I. expeditions.

Rufa

One of the seven Sectors.

Runes

Symbols that have powerful energy.

Runic Protections

Using runes to create protective barriers.

Saevus

One of the Strigis. A ferocious creature that looks like a hairless panther the size of an ox.

Sappir

One of the seven Sectors.

Seam

A thin beam of light energy that enables beings to cross between all worlds.

Sector

The group that indicates the talents a Lightworker has. Signified by the colour in the centre of the Inguz on a Lightworker’s upper arm.

Shielding

Creating a shield of light energy to deflect an attack.

Sir Lonegan Burnish

A revered figure in Lightworking history.

Skimming

Moving across the top of a Pound wave.

Staff

A wooden stick with a crystal on top. Used as a weapon and for stability.

Stephen Dorf

A famed craftsman of wooden dwellings.

The malevolent creatures of the Underworld. Controlled by the Gothak.

T.A.C.I.

Acronym for Terra Aqua Caelus and Incendium. The expedition a student takes at the end of each year to one of the Alterworlds.

T.E.P.

Acronym for Training Examination and Placement.

Tego

The defence moves in the Lightworking martial art Ferito.

Telekinesis

The ability to move things with the mind.

Teleportation

The ability to transport from one place to another using light energy.

Terra

One of the Alterworlds.

An institution for Lightworking children to learn light skills.

The Aura

The protective light energy that once stretched around the earth.

The Proditio

Also called ‘The Betrayal’. The event that destroyed the Aura, caused by a Lightworker’s treachery.

Therianthropy

The ability to transform from human form to animal form.

Tollo

The pronouncement made at the beginning of a contest of Ferito skills.

Tone Blow

A whistle that activates the release of the Wisdom.

Transitioning Tumba

A visionary technique invented by Jolin the Second in his glass artworks. Small, leathery creatures that live in Incendium.

Tunguska Event

The largest impact event on Earth in recorded history.

Tyros

One of the seven Sectors.

Underworld

The world inhabited by the Gothak and Strigis.

Unlit

A Lightworker who does not receive Viq energy.

Vipassana Meditation

A meditation technique focussing on the connection between mind and body.

The Light force.

Virens

One of the seven Sectors.

Ward

A protective force of light energy.

Warding

Using wards to prevent unwanted entry to an area.

Wisdom

The book that outlines a family’s genealogy and collective wisdom over the generations.

Zepp

A bus-like transportation vehicle that can fly.

An unbreakable diamond sourced from Incendium.

One of the Strigis. A large, hairless bat-like creature.

The malevolent creatures of the Underworld, controlled by the Gothak.

Elapidus Viper

Three heads, multi eyes, razor teeth, 30 metres high.

Gryllus Weta

Twenty metres long, like a ten-legged insect with massive jaws, clawed feet, lives in the earth. Long, jointed legs move backwards as it moves, very fast. Domed eyes, a strange, high-pitched cry.

Interfector Hornet

Sting the Lighthorses. Massive winged creatures like leathery hornets.

Latcher

Hide under rocks, many legs like an octopus, teeth like a lamprey eel.

Menax Lizard

Giant horned lizard with serrated teeth.

Mudamir

Kaar’s brother.

Napiat Serpent

Water dwelling, bite lethal in ten seconds.

Nahtaivel

Huge spiked flying creatures with three rows of teeth and a jaw like a crocodile.

Saevus

Large as an ox but resembled a black panther with grotesquely deformed muscles.

Sublabor Pede

Centipede as thick as a tree trunk, 40m. Large pincers at the front and dark, mottled scales.

Tuus Scorpion

Scorpion 3 metres tall, black shiny carapace and stinging tail, large serrated claws.

Zyx

Hulking, black shape, as large as a big dog, lumpy, hairless skin and bony wings, red eyes, poisonous claws.
